Clifford Vernon McPherson
September 7, 1928 - December 12, 2007
Dad was born in Miami, the oldest child of Rose (Clearwater) and Walter McPherson. He spent his first few years in Mariapolis where his father was a section foreman for the CNR. In 1934 Walter and Rose purchased a farm in the Roseisle area where Dad would spent the rest of his life. In 1947 as a young man he traveled to Edmonton, Alberta to train as a welder. In those days this was an extremely brave thing to do particularly since money was so tight. He obtained top marks and returned to Manitoba to work. In 1952 he married Victoria Borowski and together they raised 4 children: Leland (friend Carmelle), son Tyler; Barbara (Brian) Callum, children Gavin and Carson, Vern (Tammy), children Kelsey and Tanner, and Raymond (Charlotte) and daughter Kaitlyn. He also considered close friend Brian Burrows to be his adopted son.
Dad was an artist, an engineer, an architect, a welder, a mechanic, a carpenter, a plumber, an electrician, a designer, a logger, a sawmill operator, a ski resort technician, a bus driver, a teacher, a farmer, a musician, an historian, and a storyteller all rolled into one. He loved to design and build metal structures and was very proud of his construction of the Roseisle Rose, the mural at the Convention Centre, numerous archways and signs, his custom built wood splitter and motorcycle to name only a few.
If it couldn’t be fixed Dad would fix it. If it couldn’t be built Dad would built it. He was an entertaining story teller and had an extremely keen mind and memory for details. He assisted countless people over the years with history books, family trees, and local stories. He was also a gifted musician and could play any instrument (other than the horn he would say), without any formal training. Dad never stopped wanting to learn and his incredible memory never failed him. He spent the last few years of his life enjoying family, (particularly his grandchildren whom he adored), and friends Brian Burrows, Omar Soenen and Isaac Thiessen.
We will miss you Dad. I am sure that as we speak you are measuring up the Pearly Gates to rebuild them so that they will work better and will truly last forever. Our Heartfelt Thanks to the absolutely incredible staff at the Notre Dame de Lourdes Clinic and Hospital. Your unfailing kindness and willingness to always go out of your way to help Dad (and us) will always be cherished.
In lieu of flowers if friends and family so desire donations can be made in his honor to: Notre Dame Foundation/Palliative Care Projects, Box 190, Notre Dame de Lourdes, Manitoba, ROG 1MO
A private family service will take place at a later date. |
